FAQ

Everything tourists ask about healthcare in Bali

Honest answers to the questions you're actually thinking

💰 Pricing & Insurance

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept most major credit cards for convenient online payment. If you prefer to pay with cash, that can be arranged — just ask for instructions during your consultation. All pricing is confirmed upfront before any payment is processed.
Why is the first consultation free?
Because we want to see if we can actually help you before you commit to anything. Many health issues can be resolved with advice, reassurance, or simple guidance — and that shouldn't cost you money. If you need prescription treatment, we'll discuss options and pricing upfront. No pressure, no sales pitch, just honest medical advice.
What makes BaliDoc different from other healthcare in Bali?
Three things: 1) First GP consultation is always completely free — we want to see if we can help before you pay anything, 2) We're island-wide with many pharmacy and clinic partners across Bali for fast delivery and service, 3) We're specifically designed for tourists and expats, not locals — we understand travel insurance, visa medicals, and international patient needs.
How much does a consultation cost?
Your first consultation is always completely free. If you decide to proceed with treatment, plans typically start from USD 40. Lab work, medication, and any home visits are priced separately and always confirmed before you pay. We never charge without explicit consent.
Will my travel insurance cover this?
Most travel insurance policies cover doctor consultations when you're sick or injured abroad. We provide proper medical receipts with ICD-10 diagnosis codes, doctor licence numbers, and all details required for insurance claims. Many of our patients successfully claim reimbursement. We recommend checking with your insurance provider about telemedicine coverage.
Do you accept foreign insurance directly?
We operate on a pay-then-claim basis. You pay for services upfront and we provide documentation for you to claim reimbursement from your insurance company. This is standard practice for international healthcare and avoids delays in receiving care while insurance authorization is processed.
Are there any hidden fees?
No hidden fees, ever. All pricing is confirmed upfront before any service is provided. If additional services are recommended during your consultation (like blood work or medication), the cost is discussed and confirmed before proceeding. You always know exactly what you're paying for.
How fast is your service?
Very fast. Most patients can see a doctor within 1-6 hours, and our partners across Bali mean medication can often be delivered the same day. One customer noted "3-hour turnaround from booking to medication in hand — unthinkable in my home country." We're island-wide with many clinic and pharmacy partners for quick service.

🩺 What We Treat

What health issues can you help with online?
Common tourist health issues: food poisoning, UTIs, skin rashes, respiratory infections, allergic reactions, minor injuries, travel-related illness, prescription renewals, medical certificates for insurance claims. Also specialized care including weight loss treatment (GLP-1 medications like semaglutide), men's sexual health, hair loss treatment, and psychiatric care with our in-house psychiatrist. Conditions requiring physical examination or emergency care should be seen in person.
Can you prescribe real medication?
Yes, when clinically appropriate. BaliDoc doctors can prescribe a wide range of medications legal in Indonesia, including antibiotics, pain relief, anti-nausea medication, antifungals, weight loss medications (semaglutide, GLP-1 receptor agonists), and many other treatments. For regulated psychiatric medications, we have an in-house psychiatrist for proper assessment and prescription when needed. All medications are dispensed through licensed Indonesian pharmacies.
Do you prescribe weight loss medications?
Yes. Our doctors can prescribe weight loss medications including GLP-1 receptor agonists (semaglutide and similar medications) and other clinically appropriate weight management treatments after proper medical assessment. These require prescription and medical supervision — exactly what BaliDoc provides.
Can you prescribe psychiatric or mental health medications?
Yes. We have an in-house psychiatrist who can assess and prescribe regulated psychiatric medications when clinically appropriate. This includes antidepressants, anxiety medications, ADHD treatments, and other mental health prescriptions. All done through proper medical consultation and monitoring.
What if I need emergency care?
For genuine medical emergencies (severe injury, difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe allergic reactions), you should go directly to the nearest hospital emergency room or call local emergency services. BaliDoc is for non-emergency healthcare needs. However, we can provide follow-up care after hospital treatment and help with medical certificate documentation.
Do you do home visits?
Yes, when medically necessary. Home visits can be arranged for physical examinations, blood collection, or situations where you can't travel safely. This is subject to doctor availability and location in Bali. Home visits are an additional cost, always confirmed before booking.
Can you help with medical certificates for travel?
Yes. We can provide medical certificates for travel insurance claims, work sick leave, fit-to-fly certificates (when medically appropriate), and dive medical clearances. All certificates are issued by licensed doctors and include proper medical documentation required by insurance companies and employers.

🔒 Process & Privacy

I'm not tech-savvy — is this easy to use?
Very straightforward. Send us a WhatsApp message or book online, then we email you a secure video consultation link that opens in any browser. No apps to download, no passwords to remember, no complex forms. Many patients find it simpler than navigating busy hospitals or clinic systems.
How does an online consultation work?
Simple: 1) Send us a WhatsApp message or book online, 2) Brief chat to understand your situation, 3) We email you a secure video link for your consultation with a licensed doctor — works in any browser, no downloads needed, 4) If treatment is needed, prescription issued digitally and sent to partner pharmacies. The whole process typically takes 1-2 hours from initial contact to treatment.
What if I prefer talking to typing?
Perfect — the actual consultation is always a live video chat where you talk directly with the doctor, just like an in-person visit. The only typing is the initial WhatsApp message to get started. Many patients find talking face-to-face with the doctor much more comfortable than typing about their health concerns.
Is my medical information private?
Completely confidential. BaliDoc follows strict medical privacy protocols. Your consultation details are never shared with anyone without your explicit consent. We use secure, encrypted communication platforms and maintain medical records according to Indonesian healthcare privacy regulations.
How quickly can I see a doctor?
Usually within 1-6 hours during business hours (9 AM - 9 PM Bali time). For urgent but non-emergency situations, we often arrange same-hour consultations. We also offer scheduled consultations if you prefer a specific time. Emergency cases are prioritized.
Do I need to download any apps?
No. We use WhatsApp for initial contact (which most people already have) and standard video calling platforms for consultations. No special downloads required. We keep technology simple so you can focus on getting better, not figuring out new software.
What if the doctor can't help me online?
Our doctors will be honest if your condition requires in-person examination or specialist care. In these cases, we'll refer you to appropriate local healthcare providers and can coordinate your care transition. Your initial consultation remains free even if we can't treat you online.

🌴 Practical Questions

Do you speak English?
Yes. All BaliDoc doctors are fluent in English and Indonesian. We specifically recruited English-speaking doctors because we work primarily with international patients. Medical terminology will be explained in plain English, not medical jargon.
Will my travel insurance cover this?
Most travel insurance policies cover doctor consultations when you're sick or injured abroad. We provide proper medical receipts with ICD-10 diagnosis codes, doctor licence numbers, and all details required for insurance claims. Many of our patients successfully claim reimbursement — we know exactly what insurance companies need.
What if I'm in a remote area of Bali?
Online consultations work from anywhere with internet connection. For medication delivery or home visits, we cover most of Bali but some very remote areas may have limited service. We'll confirm availability for your specific location during your consultation.
Can you help if I'm leaving Bali soon?
Yes. We can provide medical certificates for your departure, ensure you have adequate medication for travel, coordinate care with your home doctor, and provide medical documentation for any ongoing treatment. Many patients continue follow-up consultations online after returning home.
What if I can't get to a pharmacy?
We can arrange medication delivery to your villa, hotel, or location in Bali through our partner pharmacies. Delivery is available for most areas and is an additional service. For controlled medications, pharmacy pickup may be required by law.
Do you treat families and children?
Yes, we treat families including children. For patients under 18, a legal guardian must be present during the consultation. We can help with common childhood health issues, provide guidance to parents, and coordinate appropriate pediatric care in Bali when specialized treatment is needed.
